A quick baby update

I know, with the arrival of little SofĂa later this year, some of you may be worried that this will turn into yet another baby blog ("She weighs 10 kilos! She ate her first avocado!"), while others may consider than an improvement over what passes for content now.

For the moment, though, just a quick update for those who want those details: we had our high-res ultrasound this morning, which is typically done around 20 weeks to check for birth defects and the overall health of the baby. Everything looks fine; she has 10 fingers and 10 toes, all of which are in the right place, no signs of cleft palate, spina bifida, or any other kind of abnormalities as far as they can tell. In fact, she checks out so normal that I'm beginning to suspect she won't look anything at all like her father.

Seeing tests like this (and the others we did earlier in the pregnancy) gives me a deeper respect for people like my parents who gave birth back in the days when you just hoped for the best, and didn't know what to expect until the doctor handed you a baby boy or girl. I think we'll have enough to deal with at the end of May that a little extra peace of mind will be a welcome thing.
